My Speech 2018

 Cats

Hello students and teachers!

What is a cat's favourite color?

Purrr-ple.

Introduction

  • This speech is about cats as they are one of the most popular pets in the world.Cats and humans have been associated for about 10,000 years, as seen in drawings from ancient Egypt. In New Zealand, there are an estimated 1.4 million cats.

  • The Ecology Global Network estimates that there are about 600 million small cats in the world. The wild cats alone number about 100 million

  • How many people in class have a cat? I have a cat and his name is Jasmine. He is a one year old domestic tabby cat. He likes eating Fancy Feast and once puked on the carpet after he came home from eating some bad bird. He likes people and sometimes attacks my little brother for fun. Sometimes, he behaves more like a dog by dragging things around the place and hiding them and chasing people

Interesting Facts about Cats

  • They are natural hunters as they have sharp teeth and flexible bodies that help them to catch their prey such as birds, rats and mice. They are able to hunt their prey silently due to their back paws stepping in the same place as their front paws when they walk, limiting any noise and reducing visible tracks.

  • They have excellent night vision, hearing and smell which helps locate prey.

  • Cats sleep a lot - about 14 hours a day just to conserve their energy.

  • Domestic cats weight about 4 - 5 kilograms with the heaviest cat in the world weighing in at over 21 kilograms from Australia.

  • Cats usually live for about 12 - 15 years.

Cats are identified either as purebred or domestic. There are as many as over 40 breeds of cats, with the most popular being Siamese, Persian, Ragdoll, and British Shorthair.
Problems with Cats

Many people in New Zealand dislike cats. Reasons include:

  • The effect feral cats have caused to New Zealand wildlife - the killing of native birds, lizards and insects.

  • Annoy other people by crapping in their garden and scavenging through rubbish.

  • Abandoned cats leading to increased numbers of feral cats and uncontrolled breeding.

What We Can Do

  • Putting a bell on your cat

  • Keeping your cat inside at night

Conclusion

  • Cats are better than dogs. Dogs are noisy when they bark. They are more dangerous than cats as their bite can be more lethal. They aren’t allowed to wander into the neighbourhood or they’ll get taken to the pound. They cost more to look after too.

  • Cat videos are popular on YouTube as they funny and amusing, and watched by many people.

  • I like cats because they are good company, clever, cute and nice to pat.
